Unlock Up to $4,200 with the SCE Charge Ready Home Rebate Program

Aug 28, 2026 | FAQs, Rebate

If you’re thinking about adding an electric vehicle to your household, your home’s electrical panel may need an upgrade before you can install faster home charging. Southern California Edison’s Charge Ready Home Rebate Program may help qualifying homeowners cover up to $4,200 of that cost.

Here’s what homeowners should know before applying.

What Is the Charge Ready Home Program?

The SCE Charge Ready Home Program helps eligible residential customers prepare their homes for Level 2 electric vehicle charging.

Level 2 chargers operate on a dedicated 240-volt circuit and charge an EV substantially faster than a standard household outlet. However, some homes—especially those with older electrical systems—may not have enough capacity to support the additional electrical load.

For qualifying customers, the program may help cover the cost of:

  • Upgrading an existing electrical panel to at least 200 amps
  • Installing a dedicated 240-volt EV-charging circuit or outlet
  • Necessary wiring, equipment and installation labor
  • Eligible permitting and inspection expenses

The rebate generally does not cover the cost of the EV itself, and EV charger equipment may not be included. Solar, battery, roofing and unrelated electrical work must also be separated from the eligible panel and circuit expenses.

How Much Is the Rebate?

The program offers two levels of financial assistance.

Up to $4,200 for Income-Qualified Households

Eligible customers may receive up to 100% of qualifying project costs, with a maximum rebate of $4,200.

A household may qualify based on income—generally less than 80% of the area median income for its county—or through participation in an approved assistance program.

Up to $2,100 for Qualifying Communities

Customers living in a designated disadvantaged community may receive up to 50% of eligible project costs, with a maximum rebate of $2,100.

The final rebate cannot exceed the customer’s actual eligible project cost.

Who May Qualify?

While every application is reviewed individually, the basic requirements generally include:

  • An active residential SCE electric account
  • A home located within SCE’s service territory
  • A detached or attached single-family residence with its own meter and electrical panel
  • An existing main electrical panel rated below 200 amps
  • An upgrade to a panel rated at least 200 amps
  • Installation of a dedicated 240-volt circuit or outlet near off-street parking
  • Qualification through household income, an approved assistance program or the home’s geographic location

Customers receiving electricity through a Community Choice Aggregator may still qualify if SCE provides the electric delivery service.

Tenants may also be eligible, but they must receive written approval from the property owner before completing the work.

Do You Already Need to Own an EV?

You do not necessarily have to own an electric vehicle when you apply. However, this is not a general-purpose electrical panel rebate.

Applicants must genuinely intend to install Level 2 EV charging at the home within 180 days and must sign an EV Charger Attestation confirming that intention.

If you only need a panel upgrade for solar, battery storage, an air conditioner or another electrical project—and you have no plan to install EV charging—you should not apply for this particular program.

How Does the Application Process Work?

The process generally follows these steps:

  1. Visit evhome.sce.com and select Apply/Login.
  2. Create a Charge Ready Home account and complete the requested information.
  3. Upload any documentation required to verify your eligibility.
  4. Once your application is reviewed and prequalified, you will receive a Prequalification ID.
  5. Provide your Prequalification ID to Vibe Solar.
  6. Vibe Solar will use the ID to claim your project, evaluate your electrical system, obtain the necessary permits and complete the eligible work.
  7. After the work is complete, the required invoice, permits, inspection records and before-and-after photos will be submitted for review.
  8. The program will review the completed project and issue the approved rebate.

The homeowner must complete their own application and submit any personal, income or assistance-program documentation directly through the Charge Ready Home website. Vibe Solar can explain the process, but contractors are not permitted to complete the homeowner’s prequalification application or handle private income documents on the homeowner’s behalf.

Customers should apply and receive prequalification before beginning the work whenever possible. Starting construction too early may affect how the claim must be handled or whether the project qualifies.

What If the Home Already Has a 200-Amp Panel?

A home with an existing 200-amp panel generally will not qualify for a panel-upgrade rebate simply because the panel is full or lacks available breaker space.

Properties with shared electrical panels also generally do not qualify. The home normally needs its own SCE meter and an existing panel rated below 200 amps.

A Valuable Opportunity for Future EV Owners

An electrical panel upgrade can represent a significant additional expense when preparing a home for EV charging. For eligible SCE customers, the Charge Ready Home Program could cover part—or potentially all—of the qualifying upgrade costs.

If you’re planning to purchase an EV and believe your home may need a larger electrical panel, Vibe Solar can evaluate your existing electrical system, explain your upgrade options and help you understand the next steps.

To get started:

  1. Go to evhome.sce.com.
  2. Apply and complete the requested information.
  3. Once approved, provide your Prequalification ID to Vibe Solar.

Program funding and requirements may change, and eligibility is not guaranteed. Homeowners should receive program approval before relying on a rebate to pay for any proposed work.
